The Draft Unified Development Ordinance (UDO) is available for review and comment. Join us at City Hall for an open house on Monday, July 13th, 6-8 PM . All are invited and encouraged to attend to hear from TSW as they provide an overview of the draft, answer your questions about it, and provide opportunities for you to share your thoughts. The UDO project was initiated, as called for in the City's Comprehensive Plan, to update the zoning and development regulations of the City in one unified ordinance. It also provides the necessary regulatory framework for ideas expressed in the Georgia Tech Urban Design Studio Master Plan. Here is an executive summary of the UDO. Past public engagement events include a pop-up event at the 2024 July 4th celebration, a drop-in public kick-off meeting held on October 26, 2024, and an on-line survey that was available through November 2024. Since that time, the consultant team, considering feedback from the public engagement events, has been drafting the new regulations with input from the steering committee, and now has a first draft ready for public review.
Another project called for in the Ctiy's Comprehensive Plan was to develop a redevelopment plan for some of commercial and industrial areas in the city. On October 14, 2025, the students of the Georgia Tech Urban Design Studio made their first public presentation to an overflowing audience in City Hall. This initial presentation was intended to present findings and high-level recommendations to garner public feedback to further guide the planning process. On November 6th at 6 PM, the students returned to City Hall to present their refined ideas in a charette-style presentation. After a brief introductory presentation, including a summary of feedback from the October 14th meeting, each student manned a station representing a component of the draft plan. Posters where shared at each station allowing attendees to move from one station to the next with the opportunity to speak directly to the students to ask questions and share insights to further shape the plan. The final plan was adopted by City Council on February 19, 2026.
